Anita Cruz

2011 Distinguished Alumni

Thirty years ago, Anita Cruz was a young migrant worker who brought her infant son to the fields with her while she worked. Alarmed by the dangers she and her child encountered there and the harsh living conditions endured by farm workers, Anita vowed to never work in the fields again. After earning her degree from PHCC, she became a counselor with the Florida Department of Women, Infants and Children (WIC), where she has assisted low income women and their children for more than 25 years. She also serves on boards of human services organizations to broaden her efforts to reach community members who need counseling and support.
