There are many ways we make an impact on students and our communities and we are always excited to share those special moments with you through a variety of ways. This includes telling our stories through written and video communications through the initiatives such as Benevolent Bobcats, Distinguished Alumni, Leaps & Bounds Scholarship Stories, PHSC & Me: Donor Stories, and Stories of Hope.
Making a Difference
During the 2020-2021 academic year, the PHSC Foundation assisted 950 students with $1,219,000 in scholarship funding. This is the largest amount awarded in the Foundation’s history. The direct support to students would not be possible without the help of our donors and supporters. The PHSC Foundation fills a critical role in elevating the programs and services of the College to ensure the institution is thriving and reaching strategic goals. In service of this mission, more than $642,000 in support was provided to PHSC for program and staff and faculty development (2019-2020).
This support of students and the College is facilitated by contributions made now and throughout our 45-year history. Recently, the Hernando Healthcare Foundation, Inc., an annual PHSC Foundation supporter, contributed a donation of $70,000. The generous gift is inclusive of a $250,000 pledge to provide for health care students with scholarship funding and access to state-of-the-art simulation equipment. Through their recent donation and pledge, the Hernando Healthcare Foundation will have committed over $1,000,000 to PHSC since 2010. Along with their approval of matching opportunities, their impact to health care education in Hernando County is significant.
In 2020, the Foundation also initiated the Support our Students (SOS) Fund, addressing the immediate needs of students who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Contributions directly benefit students and provide relief for hardships including housing and food insecurity, technology needs to access virtual learning, and other unforeseen financial challenges.
