The Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) Foundation recently received a $1,000 gift from the Kiwanis Club of Spring Hill designated to PHSC’s Take Stock in Children program (TSIC) of Hernando County. The funds will be matched by Florida Pre-Paid and benefit a Hernando County middle or high school student who successfully completes the TSIC program.

TSIC helps deserving low-income children stay in school, earn a high school diploma, graduate from college, and successfully enter the workforce. Students as early as sixth grade are matched with a volunteer mentors who help to motivate, tutor, and encourage them to get good grades, exhibit positive behaviors, and remain drug and crime-free. Those who successfully complete the pre-collegiate program are rewarded with a full, two-year academic scholarship to PHSC.

PHSC’s Hernando County TSIC program currently has 34 scholars throughout the county. Each year, the PHSC Foundation assists in raising $30,000 in funds for pre-paid scholarships for TSIC program graduates. The Kiwanis Club of Spring Hill has also provided past support to the PHSC Foundation through the Kiwanis Club of Spring Hill Scholarship at PHSC.
