The Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) Foundation recently received a $3,000 gift from Hernando County Sheriff’s Charities (HCSC) designated toward support of PHSC’s Concept College Program. HCSC’s Youth Education Services (Y.E.S.) Committee has made PHSC’s pre-collegiate, drop-out prevention program, Concept College, a 2017 funding focus. The recent gift enables the program to provide transportation for the five Hernando County Concept College participating high schools. The initiative focuses on community at-risk youth, promoting engagement with PHSC and positioning higher education as a viable future option. Concept College participation in Hernando County grew to more than 140 students in 2015 due, in part, to funding support from Hernando County Sheriff’s Charities. On average, the program serves just over 600 Pasco and Hernando students annually.
